Materials

The full range of materials is too vast to list here, but the main categories are……

• Combustion Modified* (CME/CMHR) – encompassing a vast range of densities and hardnesses, designed to meet all types of furniture applications. Included in this category are ‘filler-free’ foams such as Reflex™, which offer enhanced comfort and performance.
  
  
• Visco-Elastic (or ‘Memory’) foams* – originally developed for NASA to ensure the comfort of astronauts encountering massive G-forces, this material is now widely available to us all. ‘Memory’ foam moulds itself to the shape of your body, and so distributes body weight more evenly than conventional foams. Typical applications are in medical and domestic mattresses where long hours of maximum comfort are essential. We also have a range of superior moulded pillows available, in addition to being able to cut a vast array of shapes and sizes.
  
  
• Chipfoam – this is recycled material, made by chipping waste from various grades and re-forming it into blocks which can then be used again. With a range of densities, this material has uses such as high load-bearing components within furniture, sports equipment, and within the packaging industry.
  
  
• Standard Polyethers – used for items such as bath sponges and packaging, and in pharmaceutical and industrial applications.
  
  
• Polyester foams – for use in packaging and display, cosmetics, medical, automotive and consumer applications. Some of these grades offer better resistance to oils and solvents, as well as being more light stable.
  
  
• Other – specialised foams, examples are reticulated (filtration), high load bearing (HLB for packaging), acoustic,impregnated (e.g.higher fire resistance), anti-static & conductive foams and many more.

*All these foams meet the strict requirements of Schedule 1, Part 1: The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 (amended 1989 and 1993).
